Spring is here and families are starting to think about becoming a homeowner. For some families a conventional home loan is not an option. Habitat for Humanity provides homeownership for qualified families at 0% interest and with a $500 down payment. We create a partnership with this family that can help them obtain homeownership. Habitat for Humanity families can pay between $550-$700 a month, depending on gross income and family size, which may be even more affordable than rental property. Currently, Habitat for Humanity is rebuilding the community by purchasing foreclosed properties and reconstructing them for families. The families are required to invest a minimum of 200 “sweat equity” (volunteer) hours, per adult in family, on a future home.
