AFSCME District Council 36

Friend and advocate of our Union, John "Jack" Dempsey passes

Brothers and Sisters -

It is with great sadness that Council 36 announces the recent passing of a dear friend and advocate of our Union, John "Jack" Dempsey.

Brother Dempsey was General Counsel for AFSCME in Washington, DC, and we all came to know him well, and fondly, at Council 36. Jack died on January 10, 2014 after suffering a stroke. He retired in April 2013 after 38 years.

"Jack was a terrific man, a real gentleman through and through," Cheryl Parisi recalls. "He was always very helpful to Council 36 and I had tremendous respect for him."
